Why You Like the Hairdresser

I was speaking with one of my patients today and he noticed a chart on the wall. It had a picture of the back of the head, and showed these three different-coloured strips at varying heights along it.
"What's that?" he asked.
I could have gotten really technical.
"That's why you like the hairdresser. You know, when they give you a head massage and you leave feeling really terrific?"
"Yeah!" he said. "I wondered why that was."

The thing is, there are lots of nerves in the human body, and these affect certain ligaments and muscles and fibres, which then affect the way the whole body operates. Some of the most important of these are a band of fibres that run along the back of the head (they're called the Occipital Fibres).

So why do these fibres make you like the hairdresser?

Well, amazingly enough, each of these fibres actually affect the rest of your body. So when you massage them, it tends to release built-up tension and make you feel more relaxed. That's what the hairdresser does.

Now, whilst that does feel fantastic, going to a hairdresser isn't likely to fully address whatever underlying problems are actually causing the fibres to get tense. The best way to handle that is to come in and see a chiropractor to address the underlying nerve interference that will also be upsetting the alignment and general health of the rest of your body.

If you're in the Inner West, why not come in and see me? Call our reception on (02) 9799 9995 to book your appointment today.
